Google anounced some time ago that they will be starting a new advertising program that will be included into adsense where the affiliates will get paid on a CPA (Cost Per Action) basis. This seems to be an alternative to all the other big affiliate networks.

Publishers will have access to a list of affiliate programs where they will get paid for an action (sale or lead), that will be completed on the advertiser’s website.

This type of affiliate program will be great, I’m sure it will be a complete success for google, because this way the advertisers wont have to worry for the click fraud problem that it’s very often encountered in the Pay per click industry, even google cant control that type problem. And also the publishers will be paid on a more convenient way because they will get paid for the actual value that they are bringing. If they are sending only high quality visitors they will be rewarded, if they will send just junk clicks they will get nothing.

I will find this new google idea very challanging and I will try it both ways, as an advertiser and as a publisher, and I will give you some feed back on this.

One of the main problem with the affiliate programs that are currently available online is that their website is not converting. There are so many of them that have poor designed, with a lame sales text, and are expecting that the affiliates will just send them a lot of traffic, they dont care about how their website looklike because they are paying only when somebody buys something.

There has to be more and more affiliate programs where the merchants are motivated to create a website that has a high conversion rate. They must be aware that with their current status they will be going nowhere.

When I’m selecting a website to promote I always look at it and I never try to promote websites that are looking worse than my current websites.

Also another way to see if their website will convert great for you is to check if they are advertising their website on the top 3 PPC search engines (yahoo, google and msn). If they are present there, it will tell you something, if they can afford to be on top 3 and pay that kind of money to get traffic then it means that they have a good conversion rate and that they also have a ROI out of that PPC traffic, and they are also offering the most out of each trasanction that they can afford. This is not a general rule, but most of the time this is how things are.

In the last couple of months I have been successful with a couple of insurance affiliate programs. The problem with them is that only car insurance and life insurance converted for me so far. I still havent done too much testing. I just started 2 advertising campaigns they were successful and I left them as they are, and now I’m waiting for my checks to arrive.

The insurance affiliate programs are really good because most of them are Pay Per Lead (at least 80-90%). So this means that the visitors that are being sent to the insurance website dont have to buy anything, all they have to do is fill in a short form that is located on the landing page.

The prices per lead for insurance are lower than other types of pay per lead affiliate programs, for example if you could get $20-$30 for debt consolidation, payday loan and mortgage leads. For insurance leads you can get around $10 for each lead that you send. This doesnt mean that the insurance industry is not competitive. It is and it’s one of the largest PPL markets available in the United States.

Some affiliate programs claim that their top affiliates are earning more than $60k/month. So this means that there are a lot of money involved in this industry and that if you do use the right marketing techincs you will earn a lot of money.

It’s been a really big issue the lack of tracking. This thing is happening to Commission Junction, and I’m really sure that it’s happening to casino affiliate programs that are currently available online.
I remember that I used to get once every couple of months a letter from the 888.com affiliate program, with their efforts to put me to work, and start sending them more traffic.

They used to be famous for their ringtones affiliate programs that were available in an important time of the industry when it was rising. There were many people who earned a lot of money with azoogleads ringtones affiliate programs.

There were even people that were selling websites that promoted their ringtone affiliate programs. These websites were available on ebay.

I’ve contacted one of the affiliate managers from one of the insurance companies that I’m working with and he gaved me some tips about PPC search engines and promote insurance affiliate programs, and I’ve decided to post them in here in case somebody else is promoting insurance affiliate programs will use them to become more successful. Here there are:

1. The plural version of quote (quotes) converts better than the singular.

2. The word FREE is over used and has not tested well with us - Free Car Insurance Quotes vs. Compare Car Insurance Quotes - go with the latter.

3. State specific keywords are GREAT - Kansas Home Insurance - If you do this make sure the title of the ad is Kansas Home Insurance not “Home Insurance Quotes” or something generic.

4. Same goes for city specific - Chicago Auto Insurance - San Diego Renters Insurance

5. Always use the keywords phrases in the title of the ad - keyword - “Homeowners Insurance Quotes” gives a title of “Compare Homeowners Insurance Quotes” or something similar.

6. Use the negative keyword lists to filter out the low converting keywords

7. Use the budget cap but not the budget optimizer
