Referencing optimization, one always considers two beacons méta:
- Meta Description: < meta name=” description” content=”…” />
- Meta Keywords: < meta name=” keywords” content=”…” />
One can add to these two meta-tags the beacon < title> < /title> , also important, so nonparamount.
How to optimize its title, its description and its key words…?
1. < title>
The beacon < title> is of an major importance: she plays a key function in the optimization of the page, as well as a role of conversion on the pages of results.
To optimize this beacon, it is necessary to preserve these two aspects at the head, and to apply them to working.
Try to preserve the relatively short size of the title (about 70 characters). To make a too long title, you dilute the potential of each word which is there. Only the 70 to the first 80 characters will be posted on the pages of result, useless to make longer.
The elements of your title which correspond to the request of the Net surfer will be boldfaced. Think of writing titles close to the requests of your visitors… the title of this file is not “File: councils of optimization of the beacons méta “, but “How to optimize its meta tags? “… it is not for nothing.
Formulate your title correctly. Avoid the lists of key words at all costs.
The words on the left are regarded as more important: one will thus préfèrera to put the name of his site, or his company at the end of the title, and not at the beginning.
2. < meta name=” description” content=”…?
… content = a short description of the page!
The méta “description” has, as for the title of page, a role “marketing” since it is used by the engines to illustrate your page in the results of a search. She also plays a part - ever more lighter of optimization.
Useless to exceed 200 characters: again you would dilute the little of potential which remains to him. The difficult exercise is that to write the contents of this beacon so that it illustrates and summarizes perfectly the contents of the page, and is attractive for the visitor.
If it is not possible for you to inform good a méta description, the best council is not to use this meta-tag whole… (do not put “empty” meta-description: remove the line!)
3. < meta name=” keywords” content=”…?
… content = principal key words with the page
The méta-keywords had its noble letters many years ago: there to inform a key word was almost enough to position on this key word (I exaggerate of course, but not as much as that…).
Nowadays, it is very strongly depreciated. It is considered that it “is not used for nothing”.
It is in any case the official position at Google, but it is not inevitably the case for the other engines, where it can help very small little if it is correctly indicated. The problem is that one often sees this meta-tag as a “zone to be filled with the max”… whereas it should on the contrary be filled with the highhest degree of accuracy!
Test your page with a tool for analysis of density (Outiref for example: last miter). You will see appearing the list of the terms most often used on your page.
Satisfy to get information these principal terms in your méta-tag “keywords”: it is indeed useless to inform key words which would not appear in your contents. Avoid the repetitions.
4. meta-tags different on each page
The title, meta-description and the meta-keywords are specific elements to each page. You must absolutely inform a title, a méta-description and a méta-keywords different for each indexable page from your site.
For the title, it is impossible to circumvent.
For the two other elements: if you cannot provide different on each page, mention any no, except on the banner page of your site.
5. other directed beacons “SEO”
< meta-robots>: the méta “robots” makes it possible to inform the robots of what you allow them to do of your page. It is only restrictive: by defect the robots index, follow the bonds and put out of mask. Useless thus to inform < meta name=” robots” content=” index, follow, files, all”/> as one sees some sometimes.
Here the elements which you can inform there:
noindex: the page should not be indexed
nofollow: the bonds should not be considered (note: they will be followed, but will not transfèreront potential of positioning)
noarchive: the page should not be put out of mask
none: short cut for the combination “noindex, nofollow, noarchive”
index: the page can be indexed (default value)
follow: the bonds can be considered (default value)
files: the page can be put
